Racine man shot and killed following neighbor dispute
A Racine man was shot and killed inside a home on Greenfield Road early Oct. 15, 2026. Police say a 44-year-old fired the gun and is cooperating. No charges yet.
RACINE — A 52-year-old Racine man was shot and killed early Thursday inside a home in the 500 block of Greenfield Road, Racine police said. The man police say fired the gun, a 44-year-old, is cooperating with investigators. No one had been charged as of Thursday afternoon.
Officers were called to the block at about 2:56 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 15, for a report of a shooting. The caller told dispatchers they had been assaulted inside their home and had shot someone, Sgt. Alicia Mitchell, the department’s public information officer, said in a news release.
Officers found the 52-year-old with a gunshot wound to the chest. He died at the scene.
Police said their preliminary information is that the shooting started as a dispute between neighbors, turned into a physical fight, and ended with a gun being fired. Police described it as an isolated incident.
The investigation is open. Racine police investigators have been in contact with the Racine County District Attorney’s Office, which decides whether anyone is charged.
Police have not released the name of the man who died or the man who fired the gun.
As of Oct. 4, Racine police had counted six homicides in the city this year, according to the department’s statement after the Lockwood Park shooting that killed 17-year-old Samarion Campbell. Thursday’s release did not give an updated count.
